Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, WordPress: WordPress in App Engine – Should I use this instead of wordpress.com?

In planning to setup a new WordPress blog, I considered whether I would be better off hosting my blog in Azure or Google Cloud.

I had been under the impression that with some of the lightweight app engines like Azure App Engine and Google Cloud App Engine, these would allow stand-up of single-blog instances of WordPress. However, these are in-fact standing up full instances of WordPress, ie the underlying platform for hosting multiple blogs.

This also required standing-up a MySQL instance in Google Cloud SQL or Azure Database.

Having once-before assisted a not-for-profit with a malware-compromised WordPress instance, this is far more effort than is worthwhile for a single blog (or even for my dozen or so personal and professional blogs) when wordpress.com manages so much of the software and platform infrastructure for you, for cheap or free.
